a new year

Our house is finally back together! Yesterday we made a 3 course meal with a spinach salad contribution from Marcel, a delicious nutty moussaka from Alexander, and I made my first scones ever, lemon cranberry scones, out of "fresh" cranberries left over from Thanksgiving. Marcel whipped the rest of the cranberries into a sauce for on top of the scones. I guess one perk of being unemployed (and all three of us are) is that you have time to cook.

Afterwards, some of us went to see the Monday night sneak preview at the film house. The movie was Un prophète, a good movie, but incredibly hard to watch. I squirmed through the whole movie. Tonight I'm going to check out the Money Fix, which is being screened by Transition Towns Rotterdam. Next week IFFR starts!

Logo design

Today I rounded up logo design work for a symposium at the University of Illinois. Now I'm trying to fill my days with some work and fun projects.

I just got back from China after three weeks of visiting family and friends with Jorn. We started our trip in Shanghai (5 days), visited Hangzhou (1 day) en route to Fuzhou by train (12.5hrs), just in time to jump on a boat to Matzu island (2 days), then took the boat (10hrs) to Keelung, followed by a bus to Taipei to see my Grandma (5 days), then we flew to Hong Kong to meet up with Bill and Lele (6 days), taking the train to Guangzhou (1 day) to explore the city before we trained it back to Shanghai (2 days) and flew back to the Netherlands. Check out the pictures here.
